What is a regular custody account (CTO)?

The ordinary securities account is often chosen by investors wishing for freedom, diversification and no ceiling. However, its taxation is more restrictive than that of a PEA, which leads to using it in a complementary manner.

The ordinary securities account (CTO) is an investment envelope that provides access to a wide range of financial products: French and international equities, bonds, mutual funds, SICAVs, ETFs, derivatives... Unlike the AEO, it does not impose geographical or sectoral restrictions.

With a CTO, an investor can therefore:

📈 Diversify its investments on all global stock exchanges.

🌍 Invest in foreign companies, including outside Europe (Apple, Tesla, Alibaba, etc.).

🔄 Access innovative supports such as thematic ETFs (AI, energy transition, health...).

The opening is simple: just go to a traditional bank, an online broker or a management company. The operation is also flexible: no payment ceiling, possibility to multiply accounts and make arbitrations freely.

Concrete example:

An investor who wishes to buy US shares (such as Microsoft or Amazon) cannot do so via a PEA. The CTO then becomes essential to access this market.
